i tried gameranger though when starting the games it brings up the window of which game i want to play the game or dlc. even when i start up the game it doesnt join me in the match ( i have the Ultimate edition)

Which C&C game is this? Are you talking about Generals/Zero Hour?
I have tested that through Origin with the Ultimate Collection and it should be launching the individual game directly (ie. you shouldn't see the select-which-game window).
i tried generals, red alert 3 and Tiberium wars or do i need the game running when i try to join because everytime ive tried the game wasnt open yet
