Patch: Command & Conquer Gold to version 1.06c revision 3 -not possible to insta

Hello, I am new, so if I do or ask something very stupid please excuse!

I bought the "C&C ultimate collection and installed the first game "Red Allert" on my laptop (Windows 7).

The laptop is connected during the day to an external screen and eveythings worked perfect - the game is running without problem!

BUt when I am trying to play the game at home on the original screen of my laptop, I always get the message:

"Error - Unable to set the video mode"

I alreday had a look to the Forum and conntaced the Origin hotline.

I check the monitor frequence: = 60 Hertz and

I ran "rasetup.exe" and put the sreen resolution to "640 x 480"

The origin send me a link t o the forum where I should find a solution through a patch: "Command & Conquer Gold to version 1.06c revision 3".

When I tryed to install the patch it proposes a directory "C:\westwood\C&C95 " to install the patch. This directory does not exist at may laptop. The game is installed on the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert"

In any case and for what ever directory I choose - I get an error message, telling me that the game has  not been found on this path and I should enter the installation path of C&C.

Does anyone know what to do to install the patch or at least get the game running on my Laptop??

    @8XTC64

    C&C95 isn't Red Alert 1, it's Command & Conquer 1. You're trying to install a patch for the wrong game. There's a different patch for Red Alert 1.

    Here's an overview of all the community patches and fixes for the 2D C&C games:

    Command & Conquer 1:

    Red Alert 1:

    Red Alert 2:

    • The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve a multitude of graphics problems, including the "black screen" issue.
      Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and try running the game again.
    • If you still have problems with RA2 even after this, I advise installing the CnCNet online play installer for RA2/YR. Even if you're not interested in online play, it comes with a bunch of automatic fixes, and has a configuration tool which offers more choices in graphics fixes than just DDWrapper, so if one doesn't work you can just try if some of the other options do the trick.

    C&C95 isn't Red Alert 1, it's Command & Conquer 1. You're trying to install a patch for the wrong game. There's a different patch for Red Alert 1.

    Thank you for your help!!! It was fast, clear and very good. The game is running fine.

    Thank you also for the detailed info and all the links. Now even I seem to understand it.

    I hope I was able to give you a credit. I also wanted to give you more than just 1, but either its not possible or I did not manage to do so. (in that case soory I would have given you 10)

    You can do that by clicking the button on that post to accept the answer as solution 🙂

    But, yeah, for the record: "Command & Conquer Gold", "Command & Conquer Windows 95 Edition" and "C&C95" all refer to the Windows version of the original first Command & Conquer game (which was originally created for DOS, before Windows 95 even existed, hence the distinction. The original game is from august 1995, but the Win95 version was released almost two years later). The game is additionally known as "Tiberian Dawn".

    Next time I will know better how to react properly.

    I just bought the Ultimate Collection as I loved the old games and wants some nostalgia. But Origin refuses to complete any download of any of the games and when I try to do anything else it freezes and I'm forced to hard reset the PC so you're doing well to have even got them installed.

    Is there a way I can uninstall C&C95 v1.06c revision 3 patch?

    All I wanted was to prevent the top-of-map bug, but it changed the whole design of the game as well what makes it difficult for me to play it now. I got the Ultimate collection from Origin and play it on Windows 10.
