Re: Anything running in Linux?
Well, I know the people at cncnet have made mac and linux solutions, using Wine I think, but I'm not sure if what's inside those isn't just a stripped down multiplayer-only version.
As far as I know, the classics run rather well on Wine. I'd advise using the true standalone freeware versions then, though:
Command & Conquer 1, Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun are all freeware, and have all been upgraded with community-created unofficial patches that fix a lot of their bugs and compatibility problems. You can find them here:
Command & Conquer 1:
- Complete No-CD game installation pack (v1.06c r3, no videos, all music included)
- English videos pack (French and German video packs are also available on the website)
Red Alert 1:
Tiberian Sun:
I think all of the patches include certain dll overrides to fix certain malfunctioning systems, though, like thipx32.dll, ddraw.dll and wsock32.dll. From what I remember, those weren't handled automatically by Wine unless you added them to Wine's dll overides specifically. Not sure if that changed, but it's certainly something to keep in mind.
For the rest... no clue how well Origin combines with Wine. Doesn't exactly seem like a winning combination to me...
