My guess is that EA adopted the very same things people have been trying these years, so maybe you won't find the dbghelp.dll file in your game folders, or the options.ini in the data folder. But the game is still crashing.

Going through some forums, I found the current solution: first find the options.ini files in the WINDOWS DOCUMENTS FOLDER! There will be a options.ini file inside the Generals folder and another in the Zero Hour folder.

When you find those files, at the resolution line ADD YOUR CURRENT DESKTOP RESOLUTION even if the game can't run it (my case was QHD, 2560 1440), then save both the altered options.ini files.

After that, go look for the executable files (mostly they will be in program files folder, but might be different if you bought the game using third parties like steam and epic). Right click, click into properties, go into the compatibility tab and then click to run it with Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

The game will start in default resolution (800 x 600), go into options and change for the best aspect you can.

Cheers, and maybe someone will finally learn how to properly adapt their game without having to manually edit files and configurations (miracles can happen).
