I've had this issue as well.

More worryingly, when I raised it with an EA support assistant, they mentioned that multiplayer is no longer a feature of the game, and that the reason for this is associated with the removal of the multiplayer function of the game?!

If true, that's pretty outrageous for EA to pull the plug like that on an online gaming community.

Glad I'm not the only one though, and that it doesn't appear to be an account issue. A bit coincidental that the multiplayer servers on the game have been lagging horribly for weeks, which could be related.
