Hi blessedinfierno,
So there are a few reasons why this could be happening. The first is that the game is not fully up to date, go to the game library in Origin, right click on C&C Generals and select "check for updates".
The second step: Could you make sure that you have added the C&C Generals installation folder to the safelist/exception list on your firewall/antivirus/security software.
After this relaunch the game and try to join an online match.
