The windowed mode solution seems to work, though it's really a workaround and not a real fix 🤒
To play in windowed mode, set the game's exe file to run in 16-bit colour mode (best to set it on all executables; game.exe, gamemd.exe, ra2.exe, ra2md.exe and yuri.exe), add the -win command line parameter to the launch options of RA2, and then install Bibber's fixed TUC launchers so that parameter is actually passed on to the game. Alternately, instead of using the fixed launchers and the Origin launch options, you can edit the ra2.lcf (for RA2) and ra2md.lcf (for Yuri's Revenge) files and add a space and then the "-win" parameter behind the "RUN" line there:
RUN = . game.exe → RUN = . game.exe -win
