Re: Command & Conquer - The Ultimate Collection (17): total download size ?

Uhm...about 40-45 gig...hehe. If you have the retail disks you can reduce the total download size significantly by installing them and copying the large data files over to where Origin will install the game. Origin then auto-detects the files that are the same, and downloads the rest.

    Hi,

    thx for your reply.

40-45 GB ... ouch ... roughly, that would mean a whole week of uninterrupted downloading I'm afraid.

I have no retail discs whatsoever .... So, either I need to obtain a copy of the discs or download the whole lot. The latter does not seem doable I'm afraid ...

It looks like the physical (retail discs) version of the Utlimate Collection has been discontinued. Is there any other way for me to obtain it and prefereably in Western-Australia, where I currently reside ?

    Thx so much in advance

    Jurgen

  • Hmmm, does not seem so. You can use The First Decade's disks too. Also, afaik there were no disks made for CNC UC. There was a box being sold which only contained a cd-key to be used in Origin. I think the whole point was to....motivate....people to use Origin.

If it was me, I'd start downloading the one wanted to play first, then slowly download the rest in the order you would want 🙂

If you want to play them from the beginning to the end, then it will go quickly, since the first few games are very small (relative to the newer ones).

Allright, thx again for your reply.

No luck for me then. I'm gonna have to download them one by one, as you say.

I'm not a gamer at all but C&C, I just love and I just gotta have it.

    Cheers

If you're just starting on the series... don't start with buying The Ultimate Collection. The first three games in it are freeware, and the community-patched versions, especially of C&C1 and RA1, are loads better than what you find in TUC.

These first three games can be found here:

Command & Conquer 1 (Gold Edition, with the unofficial 1.06 patch)

    http://www.moddb.com/mods/command-conquer-unofficial-patch-106/downloads/cc95-v106c-revision-3-full-game-installer

English videos: (do NOT play this game without the videos. Seriously. They're half of the game)

    http://www.moddb.com/mods/command-conquer-unofficial-patch-106/downloads/command-conquer-english-videos-base-pack

Red Alert 1 web installer (including hi-res patch and videos)

For Tiberian Sun... well, it's freeware, but the good mirror I knew for that is now missing its videos download, since the website which hosted these videos went down. This one hasn't really been 'community-patched' though, besides the stuff you can also find in the Common Problems thread and on the rest of this forum (if you're on Win8, look around for Tore's Win8 TS fix), so it might be easiest to just get it from the TUC pack anyway.

For reference, though, the installer can still be found here. But yeah... its videos download won't work. And these games should really not be played without mission cutscenes.
