my brother is having this problem on an xp computer that is running fine and has ample hardware could it be an xp problem?

Running into the same problem on the digital version in the collection, but the problem has to be with the digital version because I uninstalled the digital and reinstalled my old retail disk version and it works fine. Still running XP here too, so the problem might be how XP handles something in the downloaded version.
