Re: Red Alert 2 Disc will not Install

Yea I put the game in, it runs to the launch screen, I click install and then nothing pops up after that.

  • Go to your Origin games folder: normally found this way.

Program files (x86) / (x64) > Origin Games >Command and Conquer red Alert II > _Installer > DirectX > Redist

Once in there Delete everything except these 3 files
    DSETUP.dll
    dsetup32.dll
    DXSETUP

The above 3 files should be the only files that remain in your Redist Folder.
Once that is done go back to Origin game Launcher and Try reinstalling the game, It should hopefully install without any hassle.

If you are still having problems, look in task manager and kill off the DXSETUP.exe process and try again.

And if it still doesn't work, run the DXSETUP.exe from the folder directly, let it install, then check the process has disappeared from the Task Manager and then try and install the game again.

@olikromberg Not sure what you think you're replying to, but this is about the CD version of the game not starting. It doesn't have those installer folders.

  • Are people still using the CD version? 🙂
I thought that through Origin you could put in your CD Key and then it let you download a working up-to-date version of the game? Or am I getting confused with Blizzard's Battlenet?
I'm pretty sure that is what I did, or maybe I got the game when it was an Origin free game, when it was in their on the house special offer. Either way, I'd recommend getting it through Origin if that is still possible because apart from a small direct X issue I had, it worked fine. And you can also find a file on the internet called wsock32.dll , 49kb in size from 2008 that enables network play on newer operating systems like windows 7.

That works for a lot of games, but for C&C it doesn't work for the pre-C&C3 ones, because they don't exist as separate games on Origin; they're only available as part of The Ultimate Collection.

The RA2 they gave out for free on the Origin On The House actually just contained the RA2/YR entry from The Ultimate Collection, but the games aren't actually redeemable from serials like that. One of the side reasons for that is that they're all packed with their expansion, so you'd need two keys to redeem the game, and the Origin system has no support for such things as far as I know..
