Re: Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge Won't Appear

@xDoomcloudx

In the Origin program, open the game's properties and check the box to disable the Origin In Game feature. None of the C&C games work well with it, so it's advised to do this for all of them.

If the option is greyed out, it's because you tried to launch the game first, and the launcher process makes Origin think the game is running. To get around that, simply kill the process (or restart your PC) and then try again.

Besides that... Command & Conquer 1, Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun have all been upgraded with community-created unofficial patches that fix a lot of their bugs and compatibility problems. For Red Alert 2 there's a more general patch that solves a lot of its graphics problems. You can find them here:

Command & Conquer 1:

Red Alert 1:

Tiberian Sun:

Red Alert 2:

  • The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve the "black screen" issue.
    Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.

It is strongly advised to install all of these.

    It didn't work. Still is a background process.

    @Nyerguds The download fixed the launcher being a background process, but now the game itself is a background process.

    @Nyerguds I've disabled "Origin In Game". It is still a background process.

    There is an old LAN patch (cncnet4) that could cause such problems, the file is named "wsock32.dll", did you place such a file into your game folder maybe?

    @FunkyFr3shCnCNet I've never placed a file like that in there, but, there is a file named exactly like that. Do I delete / remove it from the folder?

    You can delete it, yes. But double check that you are really inside of your Red Alert 2 folder so you don't remove any files from the wrong folder by accident

    There is something faulty with the exports, it somehow sends windows into a endless loop. Should be easy to fix, I might take a look into it one day

    Thank you two for your help. I don't know how, but Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge is now suddenly working with the old launcher somehow restored. When I first removed wsock32.dll it didn't work. But the second time I did it worked. It may or may not have contributed to the solution. Things for me just suddenly fix themselves after awhile.
