By the way, some recent mess with holiday pictures made me figure out what the problem is with that picture being upside down. Whatever camera/phone/ipad you used when taking it... you held it upside down when you took the picture.

Seems this saves the image upside down as it was taken, but saves viewing instructions into the file that tell photo viewer apps that to display it, it should be rotated 180 degrees. Chrome seems to obey these instructions, but only when viewing the file as bare image. When it's embedded on a web page it no longer applies the rotation. That's why it looked odd here.

So, long story short... browser limping behind on evolving technology  😉

However I'm experiencing one small issue which is that my background (desktop) is flashing over the game and menus - it's hard to explain, and I've taken hundreds of screenshots but none of them seem to capture this anomaly!

My desktop is appearing 'through' my game frequently (at least once every other second then sporadic periods of more) as if trying to break through when you get one of those annoying notifications such as a windows update that minimizes your game. Except there is no update, or anything in the background!

Hope someone else knows the fix for this? I've done exactly as instructed?

I've Changed the "DisableHighDpiScaling    = 1" from 0 as this helped the issue LOADS (without it the screen must flash about 3-5 times a second) but still it's frequent and rather annoying.

It feels like my resolution is battling with something but I can't for the life of me figure it out?

 i have the same crappy issue.. with ddraw i keep having this weird desktop pieces flashing in my eyes. not sure bout you, but i have another issues probably from the same source, after about 10-15 minutes of lan play my game stops working. I guess get a "the application stopped working" error and that's it. Any other fixes for this game?

Do you happen to have Skype or Steam or something open in the background? I know notifications from programs like that can cause the game to flicker while they pop up. The best fix for that is simply to make sure they're all closed and nothing will give you desktop notifications while you're playing.

I searched for Weeks and month for a fix. and now I find it simply on this forum.

why is it always that if I get one problem fixed I get another...

no it's just flickering. no problems with notification programs
it is definitley my origin in the background flickering...
also I can't change the game resolution in any way....
tried changing it in the ini files but for yuris revenge it doesn't seem to work

EDIT: Yuri's revenge doesn't seem to scale in the menu but does it ingame. so that problem is fixed.(kinda.. still weird that you can't change the resolutions in the menu...)
Now it is just this FLICKERING

This happens if you have downloaded Aqrit's ddwrapper and extracted the ddraw.dll and aqrit.cfg files into the RA2 folder and have set the ForceDirectDrawEmulation to "1". To fix this set ForceDirectDrawEmulation to "0"

so... what to do now...

Heh. Good to know that that can cause issues.

I suggest trying to run it with that option disabled then (ddwrapper will still have some effect even without any specific options enabled), and if that doesn't work, looking into the other options to see if they change anything.

I did and and nothing helped...
seems like I got to play the game with a flickering screen or with that graphic problem...
well I got around to  a modded version of the game and that works fine... (even though I can't save or play the campaign because of it) ^^'

well.. "mental omega" works fine and the mod is using Yuri's revenge's files... so SOMETHING in there fixed it... I just don't know what... I tried swapping out some of the files but I still haven't found out what fixes it... I'm no professional so I don't know what could fix it... 😞 maybe someone could look into it and find a fix... but it definitley is not me 🤔

The purple is usually fixed by the DDWrapper mentioned before... but another thing that seems to cause a lot of issues is display scaling, something Windows seems to have enabled by default on a lot of systems nowadays.

There's a compatibility mode option to disable it, but I've heard from multiple sources that often the problems caused by it don't stop until the option is actually disabled in the windows display settings.

I am having an issue where the GUI in game doesn't show, can't build building or train anything due to this. yet the main menu etc works fine.

Changing the resolution can fix this but I have to play it in windowed mode on a resolution much smaller then my screen which is very annoying, any fixes to patch this?

Sadly none of the fixes worked, wich means that I still get the Pinkscreen :/

Any suggestions or other resolutions?

Uhm. The DDWrapper fix should solve that one. It's mentioned on the first page.

I think that's the display scaling issue. It's mentioned among the posts in this thread.

Even when I had the DDWrapper with the right settings, it woudln't work.

EDIT: I reinstalled the game and did everything according to this thread and it might have fixed the half pink screen (wich I can't check), but the only problem now is that everytime I want to start a skirmish or campaign, it just crashes.

EDIT2: It works fine for a good amount of time in 800x600 resolution, but after a good amount of playtime in my skirmish match, it crashed.

EDIT3: I was searching the Web and found another fix that finally worked together with this one. Still thanks for the help 🙂

I Looked In The Options Of the aqrit config file and tried to set ForceBltNoTearing to 1, i allows you to play in windows 10 with no flashes of the screen, i will have to play longer to see if there are problems at the long run but seems to work just fine...

P.D: It really pisses me off the fact that EA cant release an update or an official patch to fix the compatibility of this awesome game...

I am still at the crossroad of not being able to play. The game either always flickers, and crashes after 10-15 minutes or if I happen to click on one of the areas of the screen rendered outside of the game, causing me to switch windows entirely. With "ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 0," I return to the half screen shifted pink/purple dominated screen colors and skewed resolutions. I too found Mental Omega to fix this issue past and present but do not know what they did (intentionally or not) to fix the issue. Though I have not really delved into it deeply relative to my knowledge, which is fairly limited, for about a decade. I have had a friend who also has the same problem, who researched and tinkered with the issue. He tried many of the same things here, if not all. He has a strong knowledge of operating systems and computers than most (certifications, for one). Same issue as I have remains...
