Re: "Registry is corrupt and has been altered"

Have you modified the registry with regedit in any way?

If so why?

Here's a solution anyway (special thanks to lajakl):

1) Open the Registry Editor by typing "regedit" at the bottom of the start menu, in the search box ( windows 7)

2)  Once you have opened the Registry Editor, go to this path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> Electronic Arts -> EA Games -> Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour -> ergc

Click on the arrows next to the folder icons to navigate to the path

3) You should see your serial number in ergc set as something like HGUTJGIDBRY286HG92JG

    Now:

   - Check if this matches with the serial code your game came with

   - make sure there are no spaces

To modify the serial number, right click on "Default" under "Name" and select modify.

If this doesn't work, try the solution here:

    The same thing. Me and a buddy are trying to play C&C Generals and I can't connect to the online part....and I just bought the Ultimate collection for this purpose only... ☹️

    What can I do?

  • Hi,

    Just found out this afternoon the problem within windows 8.  Had the same register failure.

    The solution is quite simple. Just set the program as like starting in windows 7 and give it administrator rights. And suddenly I am able to play all of the mismatch register games. Zero hour, red alert 3.

    Did nothing inside the regedit.

    Finally I have fixed it on my computer with WindowsXP. It seems that somebody made a typo in the source code!

    I can see diffent keys in registry than you wrote:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Electronic Arts -> EA Games -> Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour -> ergc

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Electronic Arts -> EA Games -> Generals]-> ergc (including ])

    After changing "Generals]" to "Generals" it works!

    there are two folder in the registery under the C&C folder

    Red Alert 3
    Red Alert 3*

    delete the original and rename the Red Alert 3* to look like original

    I had to do this with red alert 3, but I had to add the key ergc to all of the Red Alert 3 keys in the registyr directy shown.

    Not sure which one worked, but it works now.

    It isn't any of your business why I changed my regedit.  But since you seem ignorant of the fact, the registry which supports all things in windows gets bogged down and corrupted.  Thus cleaning up a registry is absolutely common.  How can you not know this?

    How can I fix this for RA3 on Windows XP? I have not seen a working solution for C&C RA3 on Windows XP.

    Can you please elaborate what "add the key ergc to all of the Red Alert 3 keys in the registy" means?

    It has been a while, but I recall that I navigated to the following location in the REGISTRY;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> Electronic Arts -> EA Games -> Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour -> ergc

    Here I manually re-entered all of my product Serial Numbers for Red Alert 3 and DLC.

    This resolved the error for me after a reboot.
