What may have happened is that you got a pop-up from your firewall application (Windows Firewall by default) asking whether or not to permit the game to connect to private/public networks. And since the games don't tolerate multi-tasking on newer systems, that's why it seemed to have locked up for you.

Put "game.exe", "gamemd.exe", "mph.exe", "mphmd.exe", "ra2.exe", "ra2md.exe", and "YURI.exe" (yeah, I know, RA2 and YR have a lot of executables) into your firewall exception lists before trying to connect with someone in multiplayer.

    Thanks, I did notice that the one computer with the game that was acting up asked for permission to run the game each time we tried to start it, this solution worked perfectly, thanks again.
