red alert 2 with windows 7 64 bit

Hi i just downloaded the ultimate pack from origins and it seems that the graphics are running weird on the game. It runs the sound correctly and when i force the screen to move it shows up just at that specific scene. I do this by manually raising and lowering the volume on the computer so that sound icon comes up overtop of the game. But when i am not changing the volume it is completely frozen with no mouse or movement of any kind. I can see all the color just fine and everything else works. I have also change the backbuffer code to =no

The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve some graphics issues on RA2. You could try that.

Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.

for some reason my computer wont let me open the .cfg files. I can open other files in that same game folder using notepad but there are alot it seems that notepad doesnt want to open. do you have any suggestions for that?

Edit: I got it to open finally and changed the emulation. This actually made the game worse to where i couldn't see anything at all even when changing the game volume. Is there a certain graphics card or system that would work better with these games? I do have access to alot of computers to try it out on.

@fyme50 Honestly, the design specs for this game are 16 years old, so unless you want to downgrade your hardware back to the year 2000 I don't think there's much to discuss there. All modern graphics cards are simply ridiculously far above the game requirements, so I doubt what card you have makes much difference. Not to mention, you never even said what card you have.

The only thing I can still think of is to make sure your graphics drivers are updated, and to see if the compatibility option "Disable Display Scaling On High DPI Settings" has any infuence.

the dpi didn't change anything. Would a disk to install on the computer help? And I am not sure of my graphics card. But it is a 2012 ASUS k53E. I'm not sure if you are a programmer or not but it seems really weird that the picture shows up for tiberian sun just fine and generals just fine as well. But thank you for all the help you have given me. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. I am going to try to find my old laptop I had the disc installed on and see the graphics card or just re download it onto that machine.

Well, there is one thing, I guess... the multiplayer client program of the CnCNet online play system does a bunch of patching and compatibility stuff automatically. You could see if their system resolves your problem. You can download the program from http://cncnet.org/

Well I found a way to fix it. But this way makes you lose the mouse on the right side of your desktop along with the game C&C generals. But this video fixed it all and it goes slow for you.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hojMNk93PoU
