Why won't C&C Generals Zero hour launch in widescreen?

I just got the C&C collection with the EA app and the game won't launch in wide-screen. I don't have an over-sized screen or anything. And I can't seem to find any display settings for the EA app to ...

@obsidian_jac Does it not launch at all, or is the game simply not widescreen? It's not very clear from your explanation.
