Zero hour install error

On installing in origin:

"Error: A redistributable package (DirectX) was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue. (false)"

I've tried installing the dxsetup in \__Installer\directx\redist separately, that finishes without any issues but I still get the same error when I'm trying to install the game.

Hmm. Maybe this DirectX package will help you:

    • Download the DirectX Redistributables package from June 2010. Be sure to uncheck any other junk they want to add to it. It should be a file called "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe".
    • Run the downloaded file. It'll ask for a folder to unpack in. Make a new folder somewhere on your disk and unpack it there. It doesn't matter where you unpack it; it can be deleted afterwards anyway.
    • Go to the folder where you told it to extract.
    • Find "DXSETUP.exe", and run that to install the missing components.
    • After the installation finished, delete the folder you unpacked everything in.

Make sure you run the game in Administrator mode, with compatibility set to WinXP Service Pack 3.

Besides that, it would be handy to know some peripherals, like if this is the original disk version or the Origin version, and which Windows version you are installing to.

Thanks, I've tried it and the dxsetup works fine but the game installation still fails with the same message. I'm trying to install the Origin version on Windows 10.

You could try deleting these downloaded setup files you mentioned in your first post, and then trying the "repair game" function.

There is no such function, only the install game is available. However the setup quits with the original message a few seconds after I press install, so I don't think it actually starts installing anything. I've tried deleting the whole downloaded folder and redownloading several times, and also switching out the files in the redist folder with those downloaded separately from the link you gave but it doesn't seem to matter.
