I just talked to EA support and they ae now saying to contact Steam about any Key issues. They would not give me a new key or add the game to my Origin. You lucked out my friend.
You MUST have an activated game of DS2 on your Origin in order for Steam to communicate with and to play multiplayer. It appears you dont need the same game key, its been reported you can buy another one on sale for your Origin/EA account and it should all work ok. Of course at that point you can just play thru Origin/EA and not use Steam at all if you want.
The issue is that Steam is selling game keys that do not activate on EA.
DS2 is on sale on EA platform now!
