Serious Perfomance Issues on PC

I'm having serious performance problems on PC which is making the game unplayable. It'll start out okay at around 60 - 80 FPS at 1440p medium settings, but as soon as I enter the lobby/waiting area in Chapter 1, the framerate tanks to sub-20 and never recovers. I've tried tinkering around with every video setting and nothing fixes it unless I exit and restart the game. And then the same problem happens again.

PC specs are:

Ryzen 5 5600

RTX 2070 Super

32GB DDR4 @3000Mhz

Game is installed on a Gen 3 NVMe SSD

  • I figured out what the problem was; apparently Dead Space doesn't like it when Wallpaper Engine is running in the background for whatever reason. I paused the app before launching the game and it's all fine now, traversal stutters aside.

    Hey @Thelazoid,

Good to hear that you figured out what was causing the issue.

    Thanks for the update.
  • I don't have wallpaper engine, and a stutter is still there so this is not a solution to the problem. We need a patch from the developer. to fix the annoying traversal stutter when entering new rooms or areas.

We need them to put out a patch for the engine causing the GPU to hang as it's sending the wrong commands. I'm wondering if this is causing the studdering too

    IGN's Dead Space Performance Review

"Unfortunately, Dead Space Remake suffers from numerous traversal

stutters. PC gamers will encounter small stutters when visiting specific

locations. These aren’t shader compilation stutters (the game compiles

shaders when you first launch it). So, let’s hope that EA Motive will

eliminate (or at least minimize) them via a future update."

Yeah I have Wallpaper Engine but disabling it is not a fix. It's completely unplayable for me. I get single digit FPS on a 3080 after about 3 minutes of playing regardless of any settings change or cache rebuild.

  • Dude, every single EA pc release over the past 12 months have been broken. "Roll back your GPU drivers" is a cheap filler response, and btw, has not worked in recent memory for any EA release. PGA early release but the game didnt work until its official release, FIFA is still riddled with CPU hitches and stutters (STILL). The new Jedi has been another clown show. Although none of this is surprising (why else was EA sports obsessed with creating a licensing monopoly, no competition)

The community also understands that there is a concerted effort across the board to nudge PC gamers to purchase consoles to avoid these issues. It's obvious that devs are trying to skate by with minimal effort by attempting to quickly port the console software to PC. Enjoy living fat while it lasts.

The company is going to have to face court eventually, the arbitration agreement attached to privacy policy updates is not a shield of invulnerability.
