[Steam] Dead Space Remake Inputs Locking up During Game Play

Hello. I am having a really major bug with the Dead Space Remake. Every once in a while (if I had to make an estimate, probably every 10 minutes on average) my inputs will just completely lock up for about fifteen seconds. So for example if I'm walking forward and it happens I will suddenly now be forced to walk forward until the game decides to smarten up. This sounds bad, but it gets worse. Not only does this happen but while it's happening the game absolutely refuses to detect any other inputs. I can't pause, I can't move my mouse around, I can't press another button to try to cancel out the input, nothing. As a result I just have to sit there and wait for the game to figure itself out. In a game like Dead Space this is absolutely a massive issue. Just before I decided to write this I was in an area with those electrified floors and it unfortunately happened as I was walking in the general direction of one of them. Isaac walked right on top of it and got electrocuted. Thankfully I didn't die although I would've preferred I did so I wouldn't have had to waste a bunch of med kits, but this is the sort of issue that a bug this game-breaking can cause.

I've tried every single fix I could find on the internet to no avail. None of it fixed the issue. I'm playing the Steam version and I tried disabling Steam Input. Didn't fix it. Every other fix I tried just didn't do anything and it's getting genuinely rage-inducing. Is there a fix for this or is this one of those games that just got abandoned while there were still major issues with it?

  • Did you ever get this issue fixed?? as Ive had this issue ever since I pre-ordered the game

    CPU-1713700kf

    GPU-RTX 4080 Super

    32GB DDR5 RAM 5600MHZ

Stored on a Samsung 980 Pro SSD

PSU 1000w not sure of exact model but its Corsair and 80plus Gold

Ive even tried cranking everything down to minimum and this issue still happens

whats even more frustrating as its a coin flip whether that session ill actually be able to play the game , some days ill be able to play through the entire game no problem at 4k RT on and some days ill spend minutes walking into walls before i just alt f4

My drivers are completely up to date, my graphics card isn't even close to overheating. I doubt that having only 80 GB free would be causing it. If it was, then that's not my fault, that's the developer's fault. My power supply is a 1000w, I highly doubt it's anywhere near at the max, even if I had the most power-hungry CPU on Earth. It COULD be the graphics settings but I honestly kind of doubt that. I could try unplugging everything that isn't in use when playing, that could be the issue. It's the only thing that directly relates to controls.

@CorndogCrusader Thank you. The good news is your system is above minimum specs! Just to reiterate, if you have two drives - SSD/HDD make sure it is installed to the SSD.

Here are the errors I pulled directly from the DxDiag file. Below are the steps I would take.

    1. Display Driver Issues:
      • AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX shows some instances of potential driver instability.
      • Errors may occur when handling high-intensity graphical tasks.
    2. Sound Device Driver Issues:
      • Realtek Audio and AMD High Definition Audio Devices use older drivers, which may lead to compatibility issues.
    3. Low Free Storage Space:
      • Only 82.7 GB of free space is available on the primary SSD, which might be insufficient for long-term system stability if updates or temporary game files consume additional space.
    4. General USB Device Issues:
      • Several connected USB devices show warnings, possibly due to driver conflicts or insufficient power.
    1. Troubleshooting Steps

    Display Driver Instability

    1. Update AMD GPU Drivers:
      • Visit the AMD Driver Support page and download the latest drivers for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
      • Use the "Factory Reset" option during installation to ensure a clean update.
    2. Check for GPU Overheating:
      • Use monitoring software like MSI Afterburner or AMD Adrenalin to track GPU temperatures during gameplay.
      • Ensure proper airflow and cooling.
    3. Adjust Game Graphics Settings:
      • Reduce graphics-intensive features like ray tracing or ultra textures in Dead Space to prevent crashes.

    Sound Device Driver Issues

    1. Update Realtek Audio Drivers:
      • Visit the motherboard manufacturer's support page (Gigabyte Technology) to download the latest Realtek drivers compatible with your system.
    2. Update AMD High Definition Audio Drivers:
      • Ensure these drivers are updated alongside the GPU drivers via AMD Adrenalin.

    Low Free Storage Space

    1. Free Up Disk Space:
      • Uninstall unused applications and delete unnecessary files.
      • Use the Disk Cleanup tool in Windows:
        • Open the Start Menu, type Disk Cleanup, and select the primary drive.
    2. Move or Archive Files:
      • Transfer large files (e.g., videos, backups) to an external drive or cloud storage.

    USB Device Errors

    1. Update USB Drivers:
      • Open Device Manager, locate USB controllers and update their drivers.
      • Visit the motherboard manufacturer’s website for updated USB controller drivers.
    2. Disconnect Unused Devices:
      • Unplug devices that are not in active use to reduce conflicts.
    3. Check Power Supply:
      • Ensure the PSU provides sufficient power for all connected devices. The RX 7900 XTX is power-intensive, and USB instability could signal borderline PSU capacity.

Here's my DxDiag, and the list of things that are connected to my PC:

    - Steelseries Apex 7 keyboard
    - Redragon M808 Storm mouse
    - A 64 GB SanDisk USB drive
    - The wireless dongle for my Gulikit KK3 MAX controller (Controller was not on at the time of these issues)

I also have my speakers (plugged into the audio port on my motherboard) and two monitors (both plugged into my graphics card) but I highly doubt either of those caused the problem.

@CorndogCrusader Can you attach a DxDiag?

Do you have the game installed on an SSD or HDD?

Do you have any other USB devices plugged in? Controller, camera, keyboard, speakers, external storage, etc?

I'm definitely still running into the same issue. I finished the game but it was still happening. I have no clue what the problem is.
