I thought the rumors of EA mishandling were just rumors, but..
First I had to upgrade my Windows from 7 32-bit to Windows 8 to play this. I found this out for myself.
I upgraded to a 4-core CPU to play it.
Did multiple checks and tricks found online. Got it semi-working (with random crashes).
Now updated the game - it doesn't load at all ("black screen"-problem).
As a senior developer myself, this product is shamefully poorly made. The 32 bit issue to start with, a horrible limitation, and horrendously poorly advertised.
It's obvious that the console crowd have been the main priority for this release.
I'm returning this game very soon, my faith in EA products is borderline zero.

@ Egg_curse...
Minimum*:
- OS: Windows 7 or 8.1 64-bit
- CPU: AMD quad core CPU @ 2.5 GHz; Intel quad core CPU @ 2.0 GHz
- System RAM: 4 GB
- Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 4870; NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
- Graphics Memory: 512 MB
- Hard Drive: 26 GB
- DirectX: 10
- Internet: 512 kbps up and down
It is right there in the MINIMUM specs, which would be on any packaging and info for the game. I am sorry you have issues with it, but don't blame Bioware for the fact that they list what is needed to run their game and you don't have it. Now it may indeed be badly made or optimized, but don't try to say they didn't post what it takes to run the game, and the fact you seemingly didn't pay attention. If you were running a dual core with 32bit system, did you also upgrade your ram and vid cards to go with it??? Do they meet the min specs?? And yeah, it can and does run fine on many systems, sorry you are so disappointed by it, personally I like the game and have 200+ hours in it.

"It is right there in the MINIMUM specs,"
Read the post you reply to. I didn't say it wasn't in the specs. I said it was poorly advertised / announced. This limitation is extremely unusual in PC gaming. No chance that the relatives who bought it for me for christmas, could have picked up that.
64 bit is also, unlike memory / HD specs or similar "discrete math limitations", an unnecessary and enforced limitation. Again, I say that as a developer.
Anyway, that wasn't my main complaint, as you would have noticed, again if you had read the whole post. I have taken that huge EA / Bioware mistake in stride, and upgraded my Windows to 64bit (=full reinstall required). In other words, the 64bit / reinstall is not an issue anymore. It is just context for my frustration.
The problem is as follows:
After a recent update, I can't play the game anymore.
TL;DR: 1) Dragon Age didn't work on my PC. 2) I got it working for a short while after massive effort. 3) I got a total of 1 hours playtime, where most of it was aforementioned loading and crashing. Then: 4) after a Bioware update, it doesn't work anymore.
It is extremely frustrating.
