At the first rift--"use the mark" ?? What mark? where?

It's not on your ability bar. You look at the rift and use the action button. On PC, you can either press and hold F (default) or right click it.
Thanks! i got it by accident. Holding F or right click did not work, but I clicked on the character circle and it happened--one of the other characters apparently did the close, not my avatar. A printed manual in the box would be an excellent addition.
While I'm here--did Patch 6 mean i could bind the middle mouse button, to forward motion? Where do I get Patch 6?

You may have Patch 6, as Origin (now) tends to update the game unless you have drilled down and disabled 'non-mandatory updates'. In Origin, Right-click DA:I and choose Check for Updates. Install it from Origin.
