Activation Key

I just bought Dragon Age 2 for PC used from a half price bookstore. It's practically new, but the previous owner obviously used the activation key, since I can't seem to use it now. Is there anyway that I can get the account transferred to mine? or do I have to buy a new game completely? Thanks for any and all help!
