Banter tied to jangling armor?

It's sooo weird, but I've had banter most of my 2nd playthrough unlike my first, and I also heard subtle improvements in sound effects, like my outfit in skyhold jangles with metal on metal when I move. Well I had to repair my game, outfit stopped jangling and my party stopped bantering. I know it seems like such an arbitrary correlation but could it be that banter is a part of the ambient sound mechanic? It doesn't matter if I travel through the war table or not, I get great music, combat music and combat dialogue, just zero banter. Reinstalling the game now in the hopes that I start jangling again :-(

  • Is it possible that the game is outputting audio through audio channels you don't have?

For instance, if yous et the game's audio dynamic range to home theater while you only have a stereo setup. This would cause the game to output a 5.1 surround signal through stereo speakers, which means some audio, more specifically everything going through the central and real speakers, can't be heard.

Since your character walks in the center of the screen, your armor sounds might come through the central speaker. Party banter is also output through the central speaker. I want to know if you have subtitles disabled, because if the game outputs in surround and subtitles are disabled, you wouldn't know if there were party banter if you only have a stereo setup. In that case you'd have to set dynamic range to headphones.

This was also a hypothetical cause of the "banter bug" as proposed by BioWare, who after reviewing several save files by affected players found no actual party banter bug. I think they still don't believe it exists.

I don't have it set to home theater. My best luck has been through my headphones on the "night" setting. I didn't change anything with the settings and it just somehow went from working to not working :-/ I do have subtitles on too.

Not sure what biowares stance on it is but enough people are complaining about it that I think they're still looking into it, perhaps increasing the rate of frequency of the random chances so it's more likely. I have to have faith that they'll want to do everything possible to help us enjoy they're great writing.

Actually, they already did that in the latest patch.

I thought they said they hadn't addressed anything regarding banter in the 12/9 patch? At least per their forum post. Is there a more recent one I missed?
