Cannot get Dragon Age Inquisition to launch / Runs as background process.

Hi! so i'm having alot of trouble trying to get this game to run. Yesterday i bought EA Play on Steam, so i'm trying to play it through that if that helps at all. One of two things happens when i try to launch this, it'll either open up Origin, reload a few times and nothing happens or it'll run but as a background process. It launched perfectly fine the very first time i installed it. I've tried almost every fix online and reinstalled at least 5 times and nothing is working. Kind of at a loss here on what to do. I'm read through the forums and like i said tried everything.

This concerns me, and it is all intertwined with Razor products.....

First step I see would be to make sure Razor products ALL of them are disabled and do a clean boot(diagnostics boot) of your machine making sure they aren't running.  Also make sure Origin, Steam(if used for DAI) and DAI are all set to run as Admin...also setting DAI to run as Win8 compatibility mode often helps.   I also see you have a Intel graphics chip listed in your DxDiag file, make sure it isn't being used for DAI at all....It looks like your system is set to run on the Nvidia card, but just double check to make sure.  Also if you have AVG or AVAST make sure to whitelist Origin, DAI and saves folder for DAI for the AV to TOTALLY ignore all of them, and not just don't scan them.  If a clean boot makes it work, then you have to figure out which program is cross interfering, but please make sure on the clean boot you ONLY authorize the bare minimum needed to run the game as a test, if you activate too many it increases the likelihood of you activating the culprit.

  • @lysskathleen "I've tried almost every fix" doesn't give us much information, unfortunately.

Could you please include a dxdiag (instructions here, in spoilered section) and what you've tried so far. Thanks 🙂

  • Hi! sorry, yeah i suppose it doesn't. I think i attached the dxdiag file correctly. So far i've tried running as admin, making the game and origin an exception in windows defender, a clean boot, i disabled origins ingame overlay, ran in the game in compatibility mode, uninstalled and reinstalled at least 5 times, same with Origin. I made sure all my drivers were up to date. None of these have worked for me, it's so strange i've never had this problem with a game before. Most of the time it's launching but running as a background process.

@lysskathleen Oh i also forgot to say, i tried disabling all my razor software as apparently it can conflict with DAI. That also didn't work.

Have you all noticed how much trouble we continually have with our games ? have you noticed they all seem to want our dxdiag files

We are giving them spec which may or may-not be passed on to others , for example graphics card manufacturers. Then i have noticed all the games seem to want more and more from our computers,. New computer, or more ram, or graphics card upgrade

    This isnt righ

One moment our game works fine on then next time there is a problem. We didn't change anything, yet we spend hours trying to fix the issues.

Why should we need these platforms to get in our way of gaming?

Why can we choose to go online or not

    Update or not

Its the fault of the big game manufacturers. they need to stop all this and just let us go online for updates or multiplay, otherwise they should all butt out of our gaming.

Someone on Facebook or other should start a revolt until these game manufacturers and platform providers, start playing the game with us

    What do you think??

    love to see your comments

    @amikee58

LOL, Steam, Origin and I think Ubisoft as well as Epic all collect background info on your system, ie graphic cards, CPU, memory....go google steam metrics for hardware, it is out there, so Devs don't need DxDiag files to see what people are running.

Now why do we ask for them here.....info, such as posted above, errors, graphic card CPUs so we can see if you are trying to run the game on a decent machine or a potatoes.  You would not believe how many times I have seen people trying to play DAI on an intel graphics chip, or a really really bad integrated graphics chip....  If we(those here helping get games running) are going to have a hope in heck of helping, we need info.

As far as games not working on all systems....tell me exactly what kind of hardware you have, brand of chip, memory(brand and amount), graphics card(integrated and dedicated card), sound card/chip, peripherals, AND EVERY program running on your computer(include what upgrade version..)  and now go find an EXACT duplicate down to the exact same programs....let me tell you, I doubt you will find one in the world.

I actually have two computers in my house, one for me and one for my son, with exact same hardware, but he can play MP on Watchdogs and I can't, his computer crashes more often than mine(I think it is a bad Video card but waiting on new generation to upgrade), and we also get differing FPS on similar games.....why, something is different in the software and maybe a issue hardware manufacturing.

So you will NEVER have 100% play-ability on any game on EVERY system, simply because of the vast differences in the systems.  If .1 percent of people have an issue on a game, then if you sell 5 million copies, that is 5000 people.....it is what it is, and unless you are going to standardize computers you will always have these kinds of glitchs just due to hardware differences, and then you have oddities of game engines and human mistakes of coding......
