Can't choose companion

I no longer can choose a companion via F2-F4, nor does clicking on them work. Reloading or restarting the game doesn't help, nor does going back to an older save. No the keybind haven't been changed either and even if it had it shouldn't affect clicking on them.

    Try to repair the game.

    (Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)
    (EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
    (Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)
