Can't play Dragon Age: Inquisition with controller through Epic Games

I just got this game because it was free on Epic Games, but no matter what I try I can't get my controller to work. Most of the topics I can find on different sites about this are talking about the Steam version, and the tip about editing a file value only allows me to use my keyboard (I use a laptop, it's not practical to use keyboard and mouse). I get a message when I go into the game settings that says I can't set it to gamepad because there isn't a gamepad connected, despite the gamepad being connected and working with every other game I've installed through Epic Games. The most I can guess is that this is an issue with the EA Launcher, but I don't know how to edit controller settings in that since it isn't an option anywhere in the Launcher's settings.

Is there a way to either get it to detect my controller or to bypass this horrible launcher and just open the game through Epic instead?
