Can't run DA:I?

Okay, I bought DA:I yesterday when the sale started. I've been waiting ALL YEAR to get this game cause I normally can't afford them. I go to boot it up this morning and get the following message: "Your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for playing this game. Intel(R) HD graphics GPU does not support DirectX 10.0 which is required"

Thing is, I have DirectX 11. I checked using the directX diagnostic tool.

my specs

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU   P6100 @200GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB, 3.68 GB usable

64 bit operating system

Know that I know very little about computers. Short of getting a new computer, what do I need to do to play this game?

    Hi @trixie1993,

An Intel CPU might not be enough to run the game. What I would suggest you to do is to visit CanYouRunIt? to test if your system is compatible with Dragon Age: Inquisition

Please note that since we don't own or operate System Requirements Lab's Can You RUN It page, we can't make changes to their page or system.

If it shows that your system is below the minimum or recommended specs, please request a refund through the Origin Great Game Guarantee page.

If it shows the game is compatible, let us know and we'll try to see what's happening.

Intel only makes a Lego Toy "pretend" video device.  It's just junk compared to a real video card, and The System Requirements Lab is roughly the same position among comparison sites.  It's amateur grade, and wrong far too often, although in this case, with only a fake video device that can't run real games, and only a two-core CPU, they should get it right.

From the official Dragon Age website, the requirements are:

    DA: I  Minimum PC Specs

        OS: Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64-bit
        CPU: AMD quad-core CPU @2.5 GHz / Intel quad-core CPU @2.0 GHz
        System RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 4870 / NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
        Graphics Card Memory: 512 MB
        Hard Drive Space: 26 GB
        DirectX 10

  • From what I googled, it appears that the integrated Intel graphic chipset on the processor only supports DirectX 10.1 and lower. Even if DirectX 11 is installed on your PC, your graphics chipset can't do anything with that. The game only supports dedicated graphics cards by Nvidia (GeForce) and AMD (Radeon). Intel graphics aren't great for gaming, except for lighter casual games.

The processor is also below the system requirements. The game requires a quad core processor, whereas yours is only a dual core. Some dual cores manage to run the game, but only if they're hyper-threaded, which this processor is not.

Buying a new PC seems to be the best solution.

Personally, I would advise against using that website because it's highly inaccurate. Here's why I don't like that site:

In this case the website told me that a Core i5 4690K is slower than the Core i5 2500K because it compared clock speeds with the wrong processor. I've also seen the website perform basic math where it was irrelevant, for instance saying a Geforce 8200 is faster than an 7800 because it's a higher number.

    I think http://www.logicalincrements.com/ is a good overview.

For the CPU I recommend the i5 6400 ("excellent" tier) or better.

For the GPU I recommend the RX 470 ("great" tier) or better.

Your query received three replies.  You need to either choose a lesser game, or replace that PC.
