Character Creator Not Loading

Hey,

I've had the game for a while now, and it ran absolutely fine creating my current character, with no problems playing her either. Now I'd like to create a new character, but the cc refuses to load. I get past the race/class/difficulty selection fine, but then I just get the black loading screen. I've waited for at least an hour with no luck.

I had some problems running the game at all before, but I fixed it by reinstalling. I'd really rather not install it for a third time, but I don't know what else to try. Ideas?

Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB (3.89 GB usable)

System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

OK, looks like your computer's a laptop with both a built in Intel GPU and an NVidia GPU. Not sure either will meet minimum system requirements (from what I know of nVidia, mobile cards that end in 10 are... not very good. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me, anyone). While you may have had no issues before, more recent game patches might have changed things (I thought it was just Trespasser that did this, but perhaps it's the patch that came out before it). You may also want to check for updates for both cards (nVidia, you might want to check Asus for the Intel ones, they might have their own. Otherwise, Intel ones can be found here).

Another possibility is you're using old mods. Many mods broke with patch 10 (we're now up to 11), so it wouldn't hurt to check if there are updated versions around (don't forget to use the most recent mod manager, too).

  • Please post your dxdiag (instructions here if you need them).

Have you tried repairing the game? (Less of a download than uninstalling & reinstalling).

Have you got any mods? They generally don't mess with the CC, but doesn't hurt to ask.
Have you got any of the DLCs? If so, which ones? Did you install any after the last time you created a character?

Any other information you think might be relevant (recent changes to your computer, etc) could be helpful, too. 🙂

  • 1) Sorry! Here it is: http://hastebin.com/fudirotobe.tex

    2) I have- didn't help, unfortunately.

    3) Yes, I do. I don't think that's the problem though because, as I said, they all worked fine with my first character.

    4) No, and no.

Aaaand as for recent changes to my computer, I can't think of anything. I did have some problems with it not long ago, but they've been fixed and that was before I installed the game anyway. Thanks so much for helping btw. 😃

@Leora85 You are correct about the Nvidia GPU. A Geforce GT 610M is significantly slower than the required Geforce 8800 GT.

@Inksplattered While the GPU is below the requirements, it should outperform the Intel HD 3000. Nvidia drivers for mobile graphics have a power saving feature that makes it switch to the integrated graphics, and for some reason, it doesn't switch to the dedicated graphics card in certain EA games. To fix this, go to your Nvidia control panel, go to 'manage 3D settings', and make sure the game is running on the Nvidia GPU instead of the integrated graphics.

  • @Fred_vdp I have already done so, actually- it seems to work fine. I get quite a bit of lag but it's manageable. :D

@Leora85 Updating the drivers didn't help, but I deleted all my mods and it worked perfectly! Now it's just a matter of figuring out which mods are causing the issue. Thank you!

Well, if you're using any hair mods, they won't show up unless you have the mesh graphics option set to ultra, which I'm guessing your card won't handle. The same may be true for some textures (hair or face), so you're probably better off not using those, either.
Some mods broke with patch 10, so if you haven't already, you might want to check for updated versions of them (and make sure you're using the most recent version of mod manager). If you need more help, let me know. 🙂
