As Terminus said, make sure they are set to follow you or your tank, not defend, and not follow themselves (they will attack if you do this, just attack random enemies which may cause them to be attacked rather than allowing the tank to be the focus).

If you are a rogue and enter stealth, the characters will hang back until you attack or command them to attack. The Veilfire torch goes for anyone. Once the veilfire is lit, a warrior can create a torch from it, and they won't attack until they drop the torch, which they won't do on their own. It is best to make the mage who lit the fire drop the torch, then create a torch with your inquisitor.

  • Hi.

Please verify in tactics if he is set to "Follow" or "Defend". I have found that when my companions were on "Defend", they just stood there doing nothing.

Solas has also a case that when he's holding a veilfire torch in his hand, he won't drop it and he won't fight. You have to manually assume control over him and force him to attack/cast a spell. That will make him drop the torch and fight.

  • This happened to me few times too but with all 3 companions... I stop hitting target because as melee dps I have to run to my target when they run away/jump and my companions simply stop attacking and just stand there in combat and look pretty...when I attack my target again they usualy decide to join me again.
