Shouldn't be any problems importing your character from DAA to GoA.
I've done it many, many times.
Did you have any mods running when you made your last save in DAA?
The "unable to load area" error is often the result of having a mod in-use when a save was made, but having removed it (or otherwise made it not available) since then.
If you had any installed, you might try removing them, loading the last save you can, playing for as long as you need to make whatever plot-point decisions you want, (side with Architect, or not) then making a NEW "last save" and importing from that one.
Let us know how it goes!
No, no mods that I know of, the only tweaking I did was to a config file to authorize my DLC. (Don't worry, this is a legit copy, I'm running it through Origin, but my DLC was listed as unauthorized, and I found out about that editing online.)
Also, I just found out that I can't even create a new character in either The Golems of Amgarrak or Witch Hunt. Same "unable to load area" stuff pops up.

Sounds like your "tweak" is what's breaking things... 😕mileysurprised:

Definitely not. It was to authorize everything I already own. If that was the problem, then NONE of my downloadable content should work. But everything works, from items to actual content like Awakening. Except of course for The Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt.

But you say that you can neither import a character nor create a new one for either GoA or WH.
Depending on what you did in the manifest.xml, you might have borked those two without impacting the other DLC.
In any case, how far along in the process do you get (give the steps you take) before seeing the error mesage?
