corrupted data resulting an losing my entire character
Dragon age origin is an absolutely wonderful game and i enjoyed everything about it EXCEPT origin.
First of all you have no easy way to submit support tickets except your 'community forum.' Relying on community support to care for YOUR clients is NOT good customer support. For an open source product maybe, but for a game provider?!
So I managed to reach a chat support person who responded as best he could, and i have nothing against him for that. But I have EVERYTHING against the way origin handles saved data, specifically cloud saves. And the access and ability he had to help me was totally inadequate.
I have now lost both a level 14 and a level 18 character, the level 14 character completely and the level 18 reverted back to level 7.
Apparently this is because i was saving to cloud, thinking that this was the safer option because it usually is with other services I've used. But apparently origin only saves to EITHER local or cloud, instead of both. I assumed data was being saved to local and then pushed to cloud, resulting in complete local data with data also being accessible via cloud, only to discover that nooo, actually you're not saving anything to local if the default option is set to save to cloud.
Then, apparently a single save to the cloud was corrupted. Which i'm presuming is not my fault as a user but is the fault of some bug or glitch in either the cloud servers or the game itself since I obviously am not messing with either game code or cloud servers.
And when i ask whether it's possible to simply remove the apparently corrupted save, so that the cloud can sync to my computer again, the support person tells me that's this is IMPOSSIBLE and he has NO ACCESS to my data and can do NOTHING TO HELP ME.
All of this means, that once again I've lost all game data now totaling 200+ hours of game time that i've played, and enjoyed, and that origin has now lost for me.
I realize nothing is perfect and there are always bugs and glitches, but if you know there are bugs and glitches and potentially corrupted saves, why the hell didn't you think to make it possible for at the very least your support technicians to revert cloud data, especially if it's caught quickly....any server has some sort of saved data that can be reverted, why not yours?
So you put out a potentially buggy feature, give no way for your own support technicians to provide adequate service for it, don't create a redundancy by saving both to local and cloud, and then the only answer i get is 'well, i guess you'll just have to start with the last save you have.' Which for the record is none, since the entire character seems to only exist on the cloud, which doesn't sync at all right now.
So thank you for providing the great game, but damit, provide better support or create redundancy, or give your tech support more access to at least be able to undo things like this.
I played this on my vacation this year, which is over, so there's no more time for me to go back through the entire thing a third time. So this amazing game has been essentially cut short for me by your poor planning and i may not be able to even play the dam thing through to the end. thanks a lot. This has been my favorite game to date and it makes me really, really mad to have it ruined by the game provider losing my data.
please fix this so this doesn't happen in the future to me or others.
