Crash when creating a female character

My problem

When I want to create a female character, my character creation crashes. This occurs after selecting a gender, race and background and then clicking on the button to go to the next screen. I have no problems when creating a male character.

This problem started a while ago, though I had been able to create and play with a female character prior to that.

My system

My game

Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition. Downloaded and installed through Origin.

Other info

In some threads it was mentioned that disabling the sound caused this problem. I have a problem relating to te sound as well, so maybe it's connected.  When I start Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition, you get this popup with Configure/Support/Instal etc. The sound there works fine, but as soon as I press the Play-button, the sound disappears and doesn't return. I looked at my sound settings in game and in the task bar, but I haven't muted DA:O. Strangely enough DA:O disappears from my mixer settings when I press Play.

Things I have tried

- Updating my drivers.

- Removing and then installing the game.

- Removing all mods.

- Applying patch 1.5

    Have you already tried this?

    • Play in compatibility mode (Windows XP).
    • Play in windowed mode.
  • I haven't, but because the video card of my old laptop got fried, I now have to install it onto a new laptop. So fingers crossed that the bug won't turn up there.

Prior to my video card getting fried, I installed the game to my D:\ instead of C:\ and that seemed to have eliminated the problem.

Previous iterations of this symptom (and similar ones) have been linked to very high graphics settings compared to the capabilities of the video solution (most commonly Intel integrated video chips).  Had your system not been killed off, I would have suggested trying comparatively low graphical settings, no matter that your former system's GPU was a quite good one.

It is entirely likely that your card was on its last legs already, and the crashing was due to the damaged condition.

Do you have any mods installed, namely character creation mods? Often when this happens it means that you have multiple Chargenmorph files from conflicting character creation mods. If so then download the chargenmorph compiler here:
