I've been trying to replay Inquisition, but am running into a really pesky problem. After 30s ~ 15m of gameplay, the game will close very quickly to the desktop without any stutter/lag. The game itself runs perfectly fine on ultra settings, and I've made sure that my computer isn't overheating. Solutions I've tried consist of turning off the in-game origins menu, various combination of display/graphical settings, repairing game files, reinstalling game files, and tinkering with my graphics driver's personal settings for the game. There doesn't seem to be a trigger for the shutdowns -- a certain quest, codex, enemy, etc. Very confused and would appreciate any assistance available.

I have never had an issue like this until Patch 10. Other games work fine including more intense games like witcher 3 and I used furmark to stress my video card to ensure it wasn't a temperature issue. Not a hardware issue, not a temperature issue, and I tried to repair the game which did nothing so I uninstalled then reinstalled the game and still nothing so as far as I can tell all evidence points to something in Patch 10 crashing the game. I've been crashing since the very beginning and during town idles. Unless enemy NPCs are also using this skill and causing it, I don't believe it to be the entire source of the issue.

Since I downgrade the Lung and Slash for Blackwall, Cassandra and myself the crash stop.

I too have started to experience this issue.I got the last DLC (Trespasser) and the game starts crashing to the desktop in the middle of battles. I am running Windows 10 and my graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 980. The game ran fine until this latest issue; just finished playing through The Descent with no problems. None of the new optional difficulty settings are in effect, but some of the companions I have with me are using the new "alternative" versions of abilities.The crash seems to be connected to special effects in the game -- my inquisitor is a mage and so all of the times the game crashed for me, was when I had used some bombastic spell with lots of on-screen visual effects, such as Chain Lightning. My theory is that the problem may actually a combination of graphics driver and game patch issues -- in other words there's a bug somewhere that appeared that's causing some sort of catastrophic memory error or some such that has the effect of "hitting Alt-F4" and bouncing back to your desktop.I'm going to try out the game on a machine with an AMD CPU and AMD graphics card in Mantle mode to see if the crash also appears there.

I had this also but only at one particular point in the game. Tried everything but forgot to use the "repair game" option in Origin.
That fixed it for me. Have you tried that?

@aristoloYou could check your reliability monitor after the crash, see if this points at a problem area.

@AquilaTempestas Try performing a hard restart of your console, hold the button until it shuts down completely, then restart it, then check again to see if the stability improves.

Nothing really stands out, behind these past three days are just my VLC going down a few times. It really feels like Inquisition is closing, as opposed to crashing? I've used other games to test if it's just false overheating, but it's only happening with Inquisition.

Why cant we get this kind of help over on the thread were many of us cant play for MONTHS because we try to start DAI and it does squat but launch Origin and show up in the task manager? I came to this thread hoping the issue was related, but I found it wasnt.....

If it makes you feel better, Inquisition remains unplayable for me as well. Really disheartening considering the symptoms resemble #1 and #2.

I have tried the hard reset but the game continues to crash.

So far it's crashed at the following places:
- Red lyrium deposits in the Hinterlands
- The Templar fight in Champions of the Just
- Just before meeting Iron Bull

Glad to know that there's someone out there having the same issue and that it isn't just hardware! Really wish there was a way to roll back to older patch versions.

Same here I tested a lot and this only started after patch 10 and never happened before, i cant figure out what it is or could be but im tired of not being able to play the game at all, after about 5 mins or so it just ctd's with no message or anything.
