DA: Inquisition Does Not Work

Hello! I'm having trouble running the game.

Was playing it a few months ago, and everything was smooth. Uninstalled it after. Yesterday, I wanted to play again and wasn't able to run it at all. It just stuck in a little window and black screen.

So far, I've tried:

- running it with administrator rights
- adding the game to an antivirus exclusion list

- reinstalling game

- deleting old cash/save folders
- running in a clean boot
- running in compatibility mode
- and whatever methods I managed to find on this forum

Nothing worked so far. My video driver is up to date and my laptop characteristics exceed all the requirements for the game.

Also, I want to mention that I was playing DA:2 a day before, and on the day I wanted to play Inquisition, it also stopped working for some reason. It works today after re-installation.

Here's DxDiag, just in case.

The "AppHangB1" error for DA is often driver related.

Download the newest driver for your GPU from NVIDIA.

Download the latest driver for your AMD APU from LENOVO. (Check that the Laptop model is correct)

    Download DDU:

Install the graphic driver this way:

    • run DDU > save mode >  NVIDIA Software and Drivers > Clean and Restart.

    • run DDU > save mode >  AMD Software and Drivers > Clean and Restart.

    • shut down any not necessary programs in the background including the real time scanner of your anti-virus software.
    • shut down any and all system monitoring programs and any overlooking tools you might have.

    • Run the installation EXE of the AMD driver. > Reboot.

    • Run the installation EXE if the NVIDIA driver.

(don't deselect components you need even if the have the same version number, the installation program will uninstall them if you do)
    • Reboot > Test.

Hey, @holger1405! Thanks for the advice, but, unfortunately, it did not help. Now the game just starts in fullscreen mode and freezes with a black screen.

I had issues lately with DAI as well. I spoke with EA help and they walked me through everything they could to get it working and it didn't help. They said there might be a bug. They're going to look it over and investigate it. So hopefully they'll find what's wrong and get it fixed. This was for the Xbox One version. I was the first to report that there was something wrong - which surprised me because I had the problem for three days before I went to them for help. It's almost a relief that I'm not the only one experiencing issues with DAI. But they are looking into it.

@jlcj1991 I'd understand if it was like a recent bug. But what I see from this forum is that it has been an ongoing problem for years now. And, in my case, it worked perfectly fine like two months ago but now flops for unknown reason.

There is no "general" problem with DAi and certainly not one that is present on different platforms.
The game is running just fine for me. There are help articles regarding Xbox game problems,

I would recommand to search them because the most likely scenario is that the problem is that this is a problem on your specific system.

    OK, lets test something.
Use DDU to uninstall the latest NVIDIA driver and install the latest driver Lenovo provides for your RTX 3070.

Repair the game. (I know you reinstalled, repair the game anyway.)

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

Then please preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.

    In clean boot:
    - Make sure the "EABackgroundService" remains enabled under point 3 in the guide.
    - Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
    - Make sure any CORSAIR/Razor software is disable or deinstalled and that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
    - Make sure only your Mouse and keyboard are connected to the PC
