DA2: Final romance scene not triggering!

First off, I play on Xbox 360 and have the latest patches installed.

I romanced Merrill throughout the game and everything seemed to be working fine until I got to the Last Straw. When you have your final companion conversations, during Merrill's it treated me as if I hadn't romanced her at all; the correct dialogue ("My love...") did not trigger. However, after the cutscene, when I clicked on her again, her little dialogue line still referred to me as "ma vhenan," so her romance flag still seems to be working, but the actual romance scene did not trigger properly.

In addition, I don't know if this is relevent, but during the other act 3 quest where one of your companions is kidnapped, Bethany was taken instead of Merrill. I had heard that your love interest is the one who is supposed to be kidnapped, but I thought it was just because Merrill was already in my party so that's why she wasn't taken. If I'm wrong about that, could this be caused by the same glitch as in The Last Straw?

I also double checked before I started The Last Straw and Merrill was still in my estate, so she was definitely romanced. I tried restarting the quest and uninstalling and reinstalling the patches, too, but that didn't work. What can I do to get the scene to trigger properly?

    From the wiki:

The hostage that is taken depends on several factors:

Bethany/Carver are the most likely to be taken, if they are alive. It does not matter if they are with the Mages/Templars or the Grey Wardens.

If Bethany/Carver is dead, then the next most likely is your love interest. However, they will only be kidnapped if they are not in your party when you travel to the Wounded Coast.

Failing that, the companion with the highest friendship score who is not in your party at the time will be kidnapped.

Sebastian cannot be taken as a hostage.

Thanks, good to know that's not part of it. Main problem still stands though.

Edit: I should also mention that since the correct dialogue isn't triggering, the achievement hasn't unlocked for me either.

With patch 1.03, some of the Act 3 romance scenes may not trigger properly, but the flow will proceed as planned.

I saw that, but I was hoping there would be a fix to it. I'm guessing there isn't?

"the flow will proceed as planned" <- What does that mean, exactly?

Yeah, "the flow will proceed as planned" is about as vague as you can get without being a Vorlon. I think it means the bug doesn't interfere with other quests.

The last comment in the talk section of Merrill's wiki page is about the same issue you had I think and no one responded to it. My searches are inconclusive, some people have the problem and others do not.

It's good that it doesn't affect anything else, but the bug itself is **bleep** annoying considering that it's costing me both an achievement and the closure to the romance... I just can't believe that there are game-breaking bugs within a central romance that haven't been fixed even in the patches. Boggles the mind.

Regarding the ign page, I'm wondering if that's what could have caused it. I've had Merrill at 100% friendship since mid-act 2, but maybe some of my decisions since then with her in the party did something... And I've been trying the leave Anders alive and go the save the mages route in the last quest, maybe I'll try doing the complete opposite and see if anything different happens even though that's not particularly what I want to do.

Thanks for your help anyways. I'm going to leave this unsolved for the time being to see if anyone else has any other insight, but I'm not counting on it.
