DA:I Crashes Upon Startup...Windows 10 issue possibly?

Greetings everbody 🤞

I bought Dragon Age: Inquisition somewhere around late 2014 or early 2015. It ran PERFECTLY with no issues at all. Just peachy. I later uninstalled it due to boredom and wanting to preserve computer space, and never came back to it. However recently I have picked up interest in the world of Dragon Age (been replaying Origins lately... such a good game) and I really wanted to play Inquisition for a change. So I installed it again. However, it crashed within seconds of startup. It would appear as a large black box that covered most of the upper left of my screen, before becoming fullscreen for a moment (with the special Dragon Age cursor as well) then crash. Some times it would have no error message, but most times it would tell me "Dragon Age: Inquisition has stopped working." I ran the compatibility tester and it detected something incompatible with the game. I tried soooo many things. I know there's a hundred other threads on this here, and I've read probably all of them by now honestly. I've tried everything suggested, but nothing is working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Origin and the game as a whole. I've tried to run it as administrator. Tried compatibility settings back to Windows 8. Checked my antivirus (it was allowed. I'm not using AVG btw, it's the free version of Avast.)  I've contacted support multiple times with no success.I was supposed to get an email about methods to potentially fixed it and never did, either. So I really didn't know what to do at this point.

It's quite frustrating, I would really love to play this game but my luck seems to be running out. It ran great before ☹️ I have a bunch of other games too and they all run great. I don't know what happened. I suspect it's the Windows 10 update, not sure what else could have caused it.

I attached my DxDiag file below, and a screenshot of the compatibility tester's results.

Any help would be much appreciated.. 🥳

Thanks

I found the fix! If anyone else has this problem and has Avast antivirus, add Inquisition as an exclusion. 🙂

@xDestinypath Hey, thanks for coming back with your fix, I marked it as a solution. Unfortunatley this issue persists with a couple of anti-virus programs, but fortunately adding the game as an exception usually fixes it.

    Cheers!

Thank you for the advice because i was going through the same problem. Where the game ran great when i was playing the trail version to see how well it ran with no problem until i brought the game.

  • My game also does not want to start at all, it looks like it might for a few seconds but then nothing. All drivers up to date, have run boosterdriver, techutillities and restoro. tried the compatibility, tried the disable full screen optimization, tried the admin, tried the clean boot, tried the re-install of cvs and diretx, repaired and updated, un-installed and re-installed Origin and DAI. still nothing, short from completely cleaning my comp I am out of ideas. And No my problem is not the antivirus (have the windows defender, but even so added to exceptions and even disabled it). This game run flawlessly on this same system before (haven't played it for about two years). Don't really want to format my comp, have other games too that still work and will take ages to re-install, but it must be something on my comp if I look at how easy others have solved the issue. Any ideas ppl???

Post up a DxDiag file so we have some idea of what's going on in your PC.  Basics are repair install with origin, making sure Origin AND DAI are run as adim, and temp disable of AV to see if it helps.  There are many things that can cause this, anything from cross program interference to a glitch in Windows to a hardware issue.

  • @EA_David welp im late on all this but i just recently became a Pc gamer and bought DAI and its not working at all does the same thing as Destiny said hers was doing and im also not a pc know it all either >< someone please help me
