DA:I Deluxe Edition for PC, product key has expired & already been redeemed
Hey,
I've had the Deluxe Edition of Dragon Age: Inquisition for my PS3 since it was released in 2014.
I can't afford a PS4 but I still have been dying to play the DLC's that aren't available for the PS3 version (mainly Trespasser), so I decided to buy a second copy of the game for my PC. I can't afford to buy a new copy again, so I ended up buying my second copy from ebay at a much more affordable price. It's was a used copy, of course (but really in pretty amazing condition). I knew that it was likely that the product key/deluxe content code would have already been redeemed (or would have expired [which it says on the insert that the code expired back in 2015, by the way]). But I've had to request a new code in the past (when I bought Dragon Age 2) because it had expired, and I didn't have any issues with getting one then.
This time when signed into my Origin account and entered the product key, I got the, "This code has already been redeemed" message I was expecting. But when I got on to contact EA and talked to an "advisor" about it (which is how I got the new product key for Dragon Age 2 before), I was told that I needed to contact ebay to get a new code, and that it was "impossible" for EA to do anything about it on their end since I hadn't bought the game from a authorized retailer.
I get that ebay isn't an authorized retailer, but not how they're supposed to be able to get me a code not just for the game, but also for my Deluxe Edition content when EA won't even give me the code. It just...doesn't make any sense to me.
I was wondering if any of you knew of any other way I could possibly get another code (as well as the Deluxe content? ...Short of having to pay for all of it, anyway. Since I mainly got the PC version of the game to buy and download the DLC's that I don't already have I guess I'd rather spend my money on those, if I had to choose. If I can't get the Deluxe content for my PC otherwise I guess I can live without it, but it would be nice to have anyway, if possible.
Not sure if the make/model/OS of my PC is relevant to this or not, but the only thing that's different about my PC setup is that I don't have a CD drive (I'm using an external to try to install the game), I have a second hard drive where my laptop's CD drive used to be. (A friend gave me this setup as a birthday gift, so I'm not sure how it works or if it would have any impact on anything like this but figured I'd include it, just in case).
Anyway, if you have any ideas or know of anything that might help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. 🙂
Used Origin, Steam, Uplay and "Epic" games are garbage. Basically, you bought a coaster for your drinks to sit on, or something to go on a shelf if you like it.....otherwise just throw it away. Why, you ask...simple...when you use a code on these platforms, it unlocks that game on your account forever more"or until they go out of business..." and thus you don't need the game disc or code ever again. When they sell the new code, it is good for unlocking the game ONE time on ONE account. When someone sells you a used code, then you are trying to get whichever company to GIVE you a game because they have already unlocked the game on another account. They can't take that game away from the first person to use the code, and thus there isn't a reason for them to basically give you a game just cause.
They don't get any money from the resale of games....one of the major reasons they have gone to this online account based setup.....and thus your issue is with Ebay and the seller of the "used" game since they are basically selling you junk or at most a collectible for a shelf. If you want the DLC, then I would watch Origin sales, and see if you can't get the Game of the Year Edition, which will have all the DLC and is often on sale for 10$ US, when they have major sales.
So basically, never ever buy a used game that is code based to one of these platforms.....I would also watch out for code sellers, ie the major discount code sites, as they often sell junk too, or pirated codes, codes bought with stolen Credit cards and sold to them, or codes for other countries, which may not work. Some code sellers are ok...somewhat...but it is easy to get burned there too.
Edited to add....Origin right now in the USA seems to be running a sale by my screen, with DAI at about 16$ GoTY, and Digital Deluxe for about 7$.
