DAI: Do companions start a romance?

Hey there,

does anyone of you know if the companions in DAI start a relationship with the inquisitor self-motivated? (given that companions preferences fit)

As far as I have the old times with DAO or DA2 in mind the companions started a talk refering relations with the main char after gathering enough approval (DAO: party camp / DA2: home of the companions)

I'm just wondering because I did many "flirt talks" but nothing happens even if the main story is in progress. Actually it seems that the romance between Cullen and my female inquisitor won't go further as long as I dont press the "Could we talk.... alone" button and by that the relationship wouldn't start from Cullen. Also Iron Bull and Josephine do nothing. Do I have to start a romance actively or otherwise the inquisitor will die alone?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

  • There's definitely a friendship/rivalry (Approval/Disapproval) spectrum, with consequences as far as later dialogue/relationship options.

But NPCs will not actively "start" a romance.  The IQ has to select those dialogue choices to initiate.

  • As far as I know, you have to "flirt" with them to advance the romances.  This is the only way I know for it to happen.

I guess this is a way to cut down on misconceptions or mistakes in romancing since they romances can be more explicit or some such....or maybe they just didn't want to give a more realistic feel to it....I personally would have liked to have seen a companion "pursue" you and allow you to reject or accept based on your choice, as well as allowing you to pursue them....ie, maybe on some plays when certain conditions are met, they flirt with you and if those conditions aren't met but you still want to romance them, you can start it up.

I agree. It seems former titles offered a better companion system. For example the good old Zevran who was an enemy at first and several ways were offered from betrayal to more than just friendly bed sharing. All started on his own.

So concerning DAI you guess that a relationship can just be done with my own clicks? Hopefully anyone can bring better news? :S
