Solved

DA:I is zoomed in on launch and won't respond

I installed an update (actually several updates at once) recently that I believe may be the Windows 10 Anniversary update. After installing, DA:I shows the normal loading screen, but once loaded, has an odd, zoomed-in look (see image) and won't respond to clicks, ESC, or using the arrow keys and enter to attempt to select the menu options that I can't see.

Changing DA:I to windowed mode using the Alt+Enter shortcut did not alleviate this issue. I tried uninstalling the update, but my computer told me there were four new updates and only let me uninstall one at a time, after which it immediately re-installed itself on a restart.

  • Hoo boy, well, I don't know if you can call this a "solution" but it definitely is fixed now.

I tried the previously-suggested fixes to no avail (cleaning registry, deleting settings file), and upon getting to updating graphics drivers, tried both updating through Devices (which told me the drivers were up to date) and downloading a manual update (since it was listed as being more recent than June for my particular driver). Attempting to install the manual update took several tries, and after restart the computer was stuck on the Windows startup loading screen (black background, spinning circle) for an entire day.

I tried rebooting it and several other solutions, but nothing worked until I managed to get Safe Mode going through holding down Shift+F8 before rebooting (to get around Quick Launch). Once again, the less drastic methods didn't work, so I went for a reset that kept my files. Long story long, after a successful reset, boot, and Origin + DAI re-installation, the problem is now fixed.

I will note that Origin updated in the time since I started having this problem, so I'm guessing either the update or the reset fixed the problem, though hell if I know which.

@takanobaka Also, can you try deleting your settings file then check if that helps too?

Navigate to My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save and make a backup of the ProfileOptions_profile file to your desktop.

Delete the file in question, then start the game up again, it should create a new version of this file from a default template, hopefully this will help.

Your graphics drivers are from June of this year, not that old but, there may be an update. Check with AMD to see if there is an update for your card. That might solve the problem.

Sometimes cleaning your registry can help as well. Use CCleaner, found Here to do that if you do not already have a utility for cleaning your registry.

Hmm, perhaps changing your DPI will have an effect? If you got to the Control Panel and Display one of the options should be to change your screen scaling. I see you have it set at 125%, can you try swapping back to 100% and see if that has an effect?

    Thanks.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound like the most satisfying of resolutions, but thanks for coming back with the update.
