DA:I on 21" imac intel iris pro 5200 using parallels

Hi guys,

I'm trying to play Dragon age inquisition on my late 2013 imac. I have an intel iris pro graphics 5200 graphic card.

according to the following benchmark site:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dragon-Age-Inquisition-Benchmarked.131101.0.html?&architecture=0&archive=0&benchmark_values=&boostspeed=0&codename=0&condensed=0&corespeed=0&daysold=0&deskornote=0&directx=0&dx=0&gpu_fullname=1&gpubenchmarks=0&memorybus=0&memoryspeed=0&month=&multiplegpus=0&or=&pixelshaders=0&professional=0&search=&shaderspeed=0&showBars=0&showClassDescription=0&showCount=0&showPercent=0&sort=&technology=0&type=&vertexshaders=0

the graphic card should be quite fine for playing at least at low graphics settings...

However when I run the game using parallels I get an incredibly slow outcome. In the main menu screen when you can see the mages and the templars marching I think i get probabily way less than 1fps. However the strange thing is that such low fps persist even if I enter the option menu which has no animation behind but just a black screen!

I'm quite clueless can someone help me?

thanks in advance

Don't use Parallels.  Get bootcamp running with a copy of Windows.  You will need to set the resolution below medium, and the animation speed may be disappointing.  In my opinion, Notebook Check tends to be somewhat overly optimistic in general.

Unfortunately Parallels is unsupported, but I have seen reports from players claiming that it worked fine for them. However I think these also were using machines with nvidia/amd cards, and were pretty beefy in general. It might help to check for directx and VC updates too, as well as the usual GPU ones.

You can re-run the directx and VC redists from their folders at Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\directx and Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\vc

i forgot to tell you that even if i set every graphic option to the minimum nothing changes and i keep getting the same fps...

@Ea_David: what do you mean saying that parallel is unsupported? By checking updates you mean on the Mac machine or on the virtual one?

Windows on a Wintel X86 PC is supported for official Tech assistance from EA, no other operating systems / emulations.  With bootcamp, and an actual copy of MS' Windows, you might have actually qualified for that level of assistance -- with a proper minimum GPU from AMD / nVIDIA.  That is not promising you any superior animation rates (with Bootcamp/ Windows), if you don't reduce the screen resolution to a relatively coarse setting to eliminate a lot of the load on the poor IGP you have.

Do not forget that the rest of your system, especially the screen, has a major influence on performance with a low end video solution.  There is no one standard for laptop screens.

the website says that expected fps should be around 30, i would understand getting 17-20 and it would still be ok for me. but i get something that is no more than 1!

As noted, no official support is extended to either the Parallels VM, nor to your video device, sorry.
