DAO will not launch

Hi,

 

Sorry that this question has been asked before, I cannot get anything to work. I recently bought DAO: UE on Origin and have been trying to get it to work for two days,with no result. When I try to launch the game from Origin or the Desktop shortcut literally nothing happens, no error message, no launcher loading then crashing, nothing. I get a spinning blue cursor for a few seconds then nothing else happens. After Googling around I found some solutions to try, with no results. What I have tried:

 

  • Updating graphic card driver
  • Manualing installing directX
  • Uninstalling and then downloading and running a new PHYX driver (different people linked to different version, I tried three or four and got no results)
  • Running the game in various compatibility modes eg. Windows 8 and 7
  • Attempting to run the game from the .exe
  • Running the game as an administrator
  • Repairing the game through Origin
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the game

I know that I can play this game on this laptop as I have done it before from a disc. I wanted to download this version so I could play the DLC, but now I'm just very frustrated. I've included my DXDIAG as this is often asked for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am able to launch the DAOConfig, so if there are any settings in there I should change, please let me know.

    Oh My God I finally got it to work! I tried using -3xA'Lu©κy the disappearing act's LAA .exe from Steam, and it works fine! I didn't try this fix before because it didn't seem relevant, but it was what I needed all along.

    @steampunkfrog 

    Your DxDiag shows that there is no sound device found on your system, so either the sound card is defective or the driver is not installed/was corrupted.

    Furthermore, the driver of your Graphics card is 4 1/2 years old, you really should install at least the newest available from ASUS.

    Both of the above can lead to the problems you are facing, you can download the Audio and Graphic driver for your notebook here.

    Install the GPU driver > Restart the Notebook > Install the Audio driver > Restart the Notebook > Test

    Hi @holger1405, thanks for replying!

    I've gone through and tried your suggestions for the audio and graphics drivers, but sadly there is no change. The game still fails to launch or provide any error messages.

    If you or others have any further suggestions, please do let me know! I feel like this is something to do with this game in particular, as I am easily able to play older and much newer games on this system. There is probably something very obvious that I am missing...

    It's about 7 years old. Not the newest, but for sure able to play this 12 year old game. Edit: and no, I have not reinstalled Windows recently.

    For fun I decided to dig out my disc copy of Dragon Age Origins (Standard edition). I installed it and it ran totally fine. Great, this proves that it does run on my machine, but doesn't solve my problem of wanting to play the whole game with the DLC that I paid for. To test it I unistalled it again and reinstalled the Ultimate Edition from Origin again (which takes forever because the internet is slow here), and came across the same error of nothing happening. So this problem is surely related to the Origin Ultimate Edition version or the DLC.

    I've attached my DXDiag again as requested.

    I would love to replay this game, it just doesn't make sense to me that is isn't working.

    Omg please help, I am trying to launch from steam, without any mods or anything, but it just won't work. I don't know what's wrong
