Despair Demons Causing Rifts to Glitch

I've tried tackling the rift on the river near Redcliffe farm (Hinterlands) for about an hour now. Normally it spawns 1-2 despair demons and 1-2 greater terrors; the terrors are no problem, but the despair demons continuously flee from my characters, and seem to break the rift. Cassandra's chased them as far as Redcliffe Farmlands on one side and the Gulley of Burnt Men on the other, despite using Hold Position commands to try and keep my party within the area of the rift. But sooner or later the despair demon teleports so far away that the rift glitches; the red progress bar disappears, the demon(s) disappear, and the rift cannot be interacted with. It still makes the sounds and green summoning circles appear, with occasional red circles, but nothing happens.

Also, the option to 'Disrupt Rift' doesn't always appear during the fights, despite thorough searching of the ground beneath the rift. Leave the game alone for 10 minutes or so and the rift spawns three black Mabari type creatures on top of the waterfall (I can't look up their names, because the tac cam can't scroll up the waterfall, but that's a glitch for another day.)

Has anybody else seen anything like this?

I get this too. Does anyone know of a solution?

Rift is still here with nothing to fight.

Yes, this section has by far the most aggravating despair demons. I try to back them in a corner and keep them stunned. If Cass is high enough level and has Spell Purge available, this is very useful for taking down their barriers.

The Charging Bull warrior skill is also extremely useful for stunning them, and positioning yourself to herd them back towards the waterfall. If using Iron Bull, you can charge, get them down and postion yourself behind the demon. Go to town with your Reaver skills (don't bother with Ring) then the demon will either die or jump back towards rift, where they should be relatively easy pickings.
