Ok. I notice that people have been having this issue since release, and that it still hasnt been approached by EA. Wow.
That aside, this is my little story:
Got the game yesterday, installed it, played it fine, barring a crash (with the DirectX Error msg) after character creation that really irritated me as I lost the mage I'd just hand-crafted. I then made the character again (with less care!) and suffered no more problems. I played roughly 9 hours last night. No crashes, no issues, it was fine. I had nearly completed the entirety of the first area and saved on a newly made camp, and went blissfully to sleep.
When I try to load the game the following morning, it crashes (same dxgi_error msg) before even loading the visuals of my save. I can't access any save, I cant start a new game, I can't do anything. So i came to the forums, and here is what I have tried for the last 5 hours of hell:
- Disable Origin in game
- disable ambient occlusion
- unclock to base level
- underclock to -100 MHz below default.
- Running in windowed mode - fullscreen and not
- turn all settings to medium, then to low, including turning off all post-processing and anti-aliasing ect
- Turn Fan to 80% using Afterburner / Nvidia Inspector
- Close Ge force experience
- In NVid Inspector, prioritize temperature control to multiple different levels
- In Nvidia control panel turned ambient occlusion on, to "performance".
- In Nvidia control panel under "manage 3D Settings" set application to "prefer maximum performance"
- Select properties on the game launcher in Origin and add the line -GameTime.MaxSimFps 30 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 30+
Deleted ALL the NVidia related programs (including all NVidia audio drivers, the graphics driver, Visions, Control Panel, etc.) through Programs and Features under Control Panel. Then I restarted and let Windows install the basic graphics driver.
- Re-installed newer drivers after no improvement
So, all of this, and I still cannot even load the save, or start a new game. Of note is that I stopped recieving the DirectX error message after I turned ambient occlusion off, after that it just crashed into a white screen.
My rig:
Windows 7
GPU: Geforce GTX 770
CPU: i5-4670 @ 3.4GHz
Memory: 8gb
Nvidia Driver Version (currently): 347.09
I'm currently re-intalling the whole game, out of desperation, but really I'm at the end of my tether, and have no idea how to fix this. If anyone can help, you will be my hero.
