downloading update keeps failing (PC)

Three times now the patch has failed to download resulting in an error (I didn't copy down the error, but I will if it happens again).

First, the size of the download can vary from each attempted download. Such as when I first tried to update it said 1.90gb, then it changed (during the same download) to around 560 megs and just a few minutes ago it said 1.75gb, and now it's changed to 1.90gb.

Second, when it does say 560 megs it'll keep downloading past that and the time to completion will jump up to some huge number.

Each time it's downloaded somewhere around 800-900 megs before it fails, forcing me to cancel and restart the download.

I have tried restarting the download, Origin, and my computer in a few basic attempts to resolve this issue, but none have worked. Since I'm on DSL it takes 2-3 hours to reach the point where it'll fail, so it's hard to troubleshoot when the failure is not always apparent sooner. I'm sure there are a few other things I could try that I'm failing to think of, but atm I'm at a loss.

I'm going to try and reinstall Origin now and see how that goes.

EDIT::

Just reinstalled Origin and started the download. The size says 1.90gb, so I guess I'll just have to wait a few hours to see if the issue is resolved.

And... it didn't work. Download said 1.90gb for the first 100 megs and now it says 541.09 megs.

  • The same thing was happening to me.

    When it fails, cancel the update.

    Right click on the game in your Library, Repair Install, and it'll work.

    I tried letting it work on its own for about 10hrs and finally gave up, but I tried that before going to bed.

    It worked for me!

    Hope it helps.

  • I've been having the same problem....

    Origin spends hours getting *part* of the download done, then something "hiccups" and it doesn't finish.  It has auto-generated multiple error reports (which I have submitted), but the download progress resets to 0% complete, and the whole process starts over.  Not only is it frustrating on no download completion, but also IT COMPLETELY PREVENTS ME FROM PLAYING THE GAME.

    I had hoped to include part of my screenshot here where Origin shows "210% progress", because to me that's another clear indicator that something is wrong.  If I find a way to post the image and link, I'll come back here and edit this

    I hope, hope, hope someone at EA or Bioware is working on this problem.  If it had been an update or DLC that I actually PAID for I would be fuming mad.

    I had a forehead slap moment when you said to try and repair the install... Can't believe I have not tried that yet.

    I'll update this if it works for me.

  • Still not working for me.

    I tried the "repair" option, but it still takes SOOOO LOOOONG that I think the network connection has a problem and the repair pauses (and another trouble ticket is auto-initiated, so I submitted it).  Then when I try "continue repair" the progress starts back over at 0% (it had gotten over 50% last night when I went to sleep & left it running).

    So, is there anyway to elevate this to a live/real EA person?  Please somebody contact me directly.

    @BioDodger

    Something else worth the try would be to set Origin to safe mode downloading:

    Into the App settings for Origin, select the Safe mode download from the Advanced settings tab, then restart Origin, and restart the update. 🙂
  • EA_Francois,

    I appreciate the suggestion.  When I got home from work today, Origin had somehow successfully completed it's task (and I didn't even think it was running).  My save games seem to be present, so now I just need to find the Black Emporium.  I thought it was accessed via the War Table, but I don't see it there.  Hmmm, let me look through other parts of this forum, and I'm sure I'll find a clue.

    It should be a new mission to unlock the area on the War Table, which costs no power. If your game is updated I'm not sure why it would be missing, I'll have a look at my own War Table to see if I see it. 🙂

    EDIT:

    Adding a screenshot! It's the pyramid at the top of my beautiful squiggly circle. Make sure you go download the update in Origin, I had to manually update my game. 🙂

    Hope this helps.

    My colleague @EA_David also suggests joining the multiplayer servers to force synchronization after installing the update. Note that you don't need to actually play a session, just to get on to multiplayer mode. 🙂
