Is the issue still occurring for you? To start with, restart Origin as an administrator, and check that your firewall and anti-virus aren't blocking the game or Origin.

I have the same issue. I bought the game recently (Mac / DVD ROM). When I enter my email address and password for Social Network, it says "validating", then it says it can't connect to the EA computers, and I should try again later. Any ideas?

Change your password and make sure not to use a special character.
