Since the last patch i continually get CTD's or connection has dropped messages after being dumped back to the main menu. My game ran perfectly before this patch but is unplayable now and i hate with a passion games that insist on connecting to a server when you play them single player. How hard is it to test these patches before they release them? They fix one thing in one patch then break it in the next, its so frustrating that after all this time and all these patches that this game is still so buggy and the further you get into it the more rushed and unpolished it feels. I left this game for almost a year to let them sort it out but no, just lazy quests, invisible walls, insta death for no reason when you walk to the end of the map and so many holes in the terrain you can get stuck in i spend more time reloading savegames than i do playing through. Another brilliant franchise ruined by EA's greed, sick of this now, i will not be wasting my money on the next one.

I get the issues almost everywhere, usually in fade rifts though.
Hopefully they actually fix it instead of letting it be.

I have this issue whenever I try to zone from one area to another. Looooong load time in which I can read all three codices regardless of their length, get up, fix something to drink/eat, come back and I'm just getting to the black screen which also lasts into forever. And finally BOOM!!! CTD.
I thought it may be my CPU (which is barely inside minimums to play, but didn't have issues prior to Trespasser and the latest patch), but now beginning to think it's a larger issue.
I also have random disconnects from the Dragon Age Servers, so using the Golden Nug is an iffy proposition at best.
Repairing the game, clearing my cache, and rebooting my PC didn't help.
OP do you have a warrior with the Lunge and Slash or Line in the Sand skills? Those caused issues for me with crashing during combat as well, but disabling them in tactics worked.
@sylvanaerieLong load times can be caused by enabling Mantle on a Radeon R9 300 series GPU.
Hmm how would I do (or undo) that? Looking at my PC specs, I have a Radeon 9200. I don't see Mantle as an option in any of the tabs I opened.
Normally it's in the display options, but your particular Radeon card doesn't have the supported architecture for Mantle, so that's not causing the issue.
The Radeon 9200 is actually very far below the system requirements, which would explain the long load times.
The Radeon 9200 dates back a dozen years, pre-Dx9, even, and was as poor then as the horrible IGPs of the same period. I recall seeing some overstock sales on eBay offering ten of them for $45 USD, plus shipping, when they were about three years out of production. They were only produced in the pre-PCIe varieties of AGP and plain PCI.
