Dragon Age: Inquisition does not start (PC)

I recently got DA:I, and have been trying to play it since the 27th of January with no success.

When I click the play button, the cloud sync window does it's thing, then it goes away, the hourglass sticks around for a few seconds, then disappears, then nothing. No game, no error message, no apparent effect at all.

When checking the processes list, the EXE appears for a moment, but not long enough to even click on. I've waited this long to post because I've been scouring this and other forums for possible answers, but answers which have worked for others with similar problems are not working for me.

Things I've tried (most of which were recomended by others who have had this problem and solved it) (assume that all of these steps included restarting my computer a bunch of times:

  • Disabling Origin overlay
  • Disabling Origin save cloud
  • Running the EXE in administrator mode.
  • Running the EXE in various compatability modes from Vista forward, both with and without administrator mode
  • Running origin in administrator mode
  • Running the game after a 'clean boot' in which all other non-essential processes, like my VPN and so forth, are turned off
  • Plaing the game in offline mode
  • Removing all of the paches that have been applied to the game since original version (there is no way to pick and choose, AFAIK, so it's either fully patched or not patched at all)
  • Updating my graphics drivers
  • Downdating my graphics drivers to each itteration between the release of the game and now
  • Updating Windows
  • Downdating windows one update at a time back to the date of the release of the game (and a little past, just for s&g))
  • disabling various graphics options for this specific program in the nVidia control panel
  • Manualy creating a graphics settings file in the save games directory, and trying various settings one at a time and in various combinations. The ones I've tried are thus:
GstRender.FullscreenEnabled 0
GstRender.FullscreenMode 1
GstRender.FullscreenScreen 0
GstRender.AntiAliasingPost 1
GstRender.PostProcessQuality 1

Let this also serve as a pretty comprehensive list of all the things that others can try if they are having the same problem, since all of these worked for someone.

If there are any further suggestions, please let me know.

I'll also keep looking around for more possible things to try and report back afterward.

Thanks for any help. 🙂

It started working again, and has now been working reliably for several days, and through multiple restarts.

I guess it's stable now, but I don't know what made it start working.
