I got past the black screen quick-crash
- Right clicked on the Dragon Age Inquisition desktop icon
- Selected Properties
- Selected Compatibility tab
- In Settings, checked "Run this program as an administrator"
- Clicked Apply, then OK
Program now starts:
- Permission to make changes is asked by Windows, and granted
- Icon shows in the bottom right, slighly pulsing
- Cursor is game arrow (golden)
- Up comes a warning dialog that things are being updated in game
- The opening animation (marching mages and Templars) shows; no sound. Also not full-screen.
- Click on the screen. It goes full-screen, animation freezes, but now I hear opening music
- Next click or keyboard action crashes everything, and Origin and Inquisiton windows gone
So some progress, but it would sure be nice to get to character creation!

Any news of a patch coming? IGN review said the game was very buggy and that they were told a patch was supposed to come quickly after or before launch. I am hoping they add driver detection for their game, fix the issue with the GTX 660 series, whatever the problem is. Whatever they should have been doing weeks or months ago to prepare for launch they need to be doing NOW. I know enough to know its not me, when I can play everything else fine but this game. 8 cores, 16 GB, 4GB of video memory...I think maybe I should be able to run it?
- 11 years agoThis actually got the game to launch I'm in character creation as we speak.... fingers crossed.

I'm glad this thread has spawned a solution for Intel HD users, seriously thats cool. Please dont forget about the other hundreds of video cards in the range. Not that hard right?
Intel HD....sounds like an on board laptop GPU or something? Or no? If that were the case I wouldn't expect it to work.
- 11 years agoOK playing now so far so good.
What fixed the crashing for me was right clicking the desktop short cut, going to compatibility and ticking launch as administrator. Applying and launching.
I tried right clicking the short cut and going to the admin option from there but would crash. Ticking it in compatibility got it working for me.- Anonymous11 years ago

- 11 years agoI have read meant users saying the game would not launch it would bring up a black screen then auto crash back to the desktop....
That is exactly the issue I was having... and just letting others know what fixed it for 'ME'
