I have an older rig, fx 4100, 5000 hd series vid card, and 16gb of memory. I can play it, but sometimes (not often) it crashes, or will not start. For the will not start, I restart Origin, (yes, I disabled the overlay), and restart DA after using ctrl, alt del to shut it down. SOmetimes I have to do this three or four times. (unacceptable in my book, but I can play) It allways freezez in the Contacting DA server if it freezes. During game play, I have no real hiccups that are game breaking, but I did notice i am using Direct x 10, not 11. ALso I can FORGET crossfire, it stutters too much. It works fine with one card though. The card(s) have 1 gig memory.
I know this is not a fix, this is just an observation that maybe will help some. I do disable origin (go offline) if it hangs more than three times, and that seems to work.
I found a soloution to this for me yesterday, and it was to disable the LUNGE AND SLASH ability in the behaviour tab, for those who have unlocked it, whenever i had cassandra or blackwall with me the game would instantly crash on random occasions, but after i disabled it, i didn't get a single crash in or out of combat! Lets hope it works for you guys aswell!

It's possible this is why switching blackwall out for me worked; he had lunge and slash learned and iron bulll who I use as a tank does not.
I changed my party and was able to go 20 mins of non-stop fighting in the swamp area with the infinite spawning undead.
Let the game sit paused on the menu screen for an hour, came back and the game crashed after 10 seconds of fighting.
This time I had main character, Sara, Solas, and Varric.
I am not sure about the slash and lunge. I will check that next and see. Just seems like you fix one thing that causes the game to crash, so your game will develop another trigger that causes the same thing :'(
Hoping enough people post that we can get some attention.
I too took off lunge and slash and was able to play for 2 hours. Normally game crashed during combat, but I did not have a single issue last night! Thanks to the poster that gave that idea. If that really is the issue, maybe Bioware can start looking into why it happens 🙂
